Julius Berger Nigeria Plc used the Future Cities Summit 2026 in Lagos to push for wider adoption of low-carbon construction practices. The company's regional manager, Thomas Christl, said high upfront costs remain a barrier but stressed that sustainable buildings deliver long-term savings through lower maintenance and energy use. He pointed to recycled concrete as a practical way to cut emissions and reduce reliance on new materials. Christl called for stronger ties between government, universities, and industry to create standards and share knowledge on green building materials. The panel also included representatives from Saint-Gobain Nigeria and Alitheia Capital. Participants agreed that financial, technical, and regulatory hurdles need joint action to scale sustainable construction in Nigeria.
