JTL Teesside Training Centre opens in Thornaby to train electricians for low-carbon jobs and net zero skills gap

A new training centre in Thornaby, Teesside, has opened to train electrical apprentices for careers tied to clean energy, housing, and infrastructure. JTL's Teesside Training Centre aims to address the growing demand for electricians in low-carbon sectors, including offshore wind, hydrogen, carbon capture, and housing upgrades tied to net zero targets. The centre was developed in response to the Tees Valley Local Skills Improvement Plan, which identifies green energy and industrial decarbonisation as priority areas. Local officials and employers discussed how policy can better support apprenticeship training and ensure the region has the skilled workforce needed for upcoming infrastructure and clean energy projects. The facility includes practical workshop space and classrooms for hands-on electrical installation training.
