Jotun COSCO Marine Coatings signs deal for 125 newbuild bulk carriers with COSCO Shipping to cut emissions

Jotun COSCO Marine Coatings (JCMC) signed a memorandum of cooperation with COSCO SHIPPING Bulk covering 125 newbuilding bulk carriers. The deal focuses on applying advanced antifouling coatings to reduce hull resistance, cut fuel consumption, and lower carbon emissions. Some vessels may also get Hull Skating Solutions for ongoing efficiency gains. The agreement supports COSCO SHIPPING Bulk's low-carbon roadmap and Jotun's Clean Shipping Commitment. This is a concrete step in marine decarbonization. Instead of retrofitting existing ships, the coatings are being applied at the build stage, which is more efficient. The scale is notable: 125 bulk carriers. If the Hull Skating Solutions are deployed on select vessels, that could mean further fuel savings through automated underwater cleaning. The real test will be in the operational data over the next few years, but the direction is clear.
