Jordan has signed a $1 billion agreement to build a green ammonia facility in Aqaba. The project will use a 550MW off-grid solar plant to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 200,000 tonnes per year. The facility will integrate seawater desalination and energy storage to ensure stable production without impacting the national grid or potable water supplies. Commercial operations are expected to begin in November 2030, positioning Jordan as a low-carbon fuel export hub for Europe and Asia.
