Johnvents Group, a Nigerian agribusiness, has screened over 50,000 cocoa farms to identify and manage deforestation risks. The company says this is part of efforts to meet the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and Rainforest Alliance certification standards. It is also expanding farm-to-warehouse traceability systems and has established its first greenhouse gas inventory under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The company's 150,000 Cocoa Farmers Empowerment Programme aims to improve supply chain transparency while complying with international market rules. Johnvents has also set up board-level oversight for sustainable finance, carbon management, and regulatory compliance. The move reflects how African commodity producers are adapting to stricter environmental requirements from buyers in Europe and other regions.
