Jindal Stainless Hisar unit cuts emissions 42%, boosts renewables to 58% of energy use
businessupturn.comJindal Stainless' Hisar plant in India has received three awards for its sustainability and energy transition work. The plant reports a 42% cut in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions compared to FY 2022-23, and says renewable sources supplied 58% of its energy in FY 2025-26. It also abated 364,295 tonnes of CO2 during that year. The company says the reductions come from high-efficiency equipment, waste heat recovery, green hydrogen use, recycled content, and a zero waste to landfill program. The awards include the Economic Times Energy Transition Awards, BW Sustainable World Awards, and Prithvi Awards. This is a useful example of how a large stainless steel producer is reducing its operational emissions in India. The main missing piece is how the renewable energy is sourced, since that determines whether the Scope 2 numbers hold up under stricter accounting.
