Jiahua Energy Chemical Industry is developing a high-performance synthetic rubber project in Zhejiang province. The 1.25 billion yuan investment will create a facility with a total capacity of 240 kilotonnes per annum, focusing on solution styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR) for high-performance tires. The project will be rolled out in two phases of 120ktpa each. Construction is expected to take 18 months following final safety and energy assessments, with production slated to begin in 2027.

The environmental impact approval from October 2025 is the key here. Usually, these approvals in Zhejiang now require specific emissions targets. If they want to hit those 2027 dates, they will need to prove their carbon intensity is lower than the previous generation of SSBR plants.
