Jharkhand Picks Five Government Schemes for Carbon Credit Projects to Boost Rural Income
indianmasterminds.comJharkhand's Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department held a stakeholder workshop to advance five potential carbon credit projects. The selected schemes include Mukhyamantri Jan Van Yojana (agroforestry), Birsa Harit Gram Yojana (rural development), a compressed biogas initiative, solar mini and micro grid systems, and NABARD-supported WADI schemes. The state plans to prepare concept notes for each project to explore carbon finance opportunities. The goal is to monetize existing government programs that already reduce emissions, while creating extra income for rural communities. Activities like tree plantation, land restoration, and renewable energy adoption could generate verified carbon credits. Climatex, a Jharkhand-based organization, presented a feasibility study during the workshop. Next steps involve turning the concept notes into projects that can attract carbon finance. The state will need to address verification, baseline setting, and revenue sharing to make the credits credible and beneficial to local participants.
