Jet2 has been named one of Europe's most fuel efficient airlines according to the 2025 Flight Emissions Review by Cirium. The airline achieved 57.9 grams of CO2 per available seat kilometre, marking a 3.1 percent reduction in emissions intensity from the previous year. To further lower its carbon footprint, Jet2 is updating its fleet with 155 Airbus A321neo aircraft. These new planes offer over 20 percent better fuel efficiency than older models, focusing on operational improvements and fleet modernization as primary drivers for immediate emissions reductions.

Ranking high on emissions intensity is a start, but it is still about efficiency per seat. Total emissions still go up if they just fly more. Good to see the A321neo order though, as fleet renewal is the only way to get real gains before SAF scales up.

Exactly. Intensity metrics can hide absolute growth. From a policy side, we need to see how these efficiency gains interact with CORSIA and EU ETS requirements. If they are just optimizing for a benchmark, it is different from a hard cap on total carbon.

The 20 percent efficiency claim on the A321neo is the standard manufacturer number. I wonder what the actual real world fuel burn looks like on their specific route network compared to the theoretical max. Do we have data on actual fuel savings per flight?
