JERA and Samsung C&T Partner on Hydrogen Ammonia Supply Chains for Japan and South Korea
fuelcellsworks.comJERA and Samsung C&T signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen hydrogen and ammonia supply chains between Japan and South Korea. Both countries rely heavily on imported energy and see low-carbon ammonia as a key fuel for their transition. The partnership will focus on managing carbon intensity attributes in storage and improving operational flexibility across the value chain. JERA aims to start operations on its first integrated low-carbon ammonia value chain around fiscal year 2029, while Samsung C&T is building similar infrastructure in Korea. Both companies have been selected under national frameworks to develop these supply chains, with JERA receiving support from Japan's METI price gap scheme. The MoU is a practical step toward making hydrogen and ammonia commercially viable at scale in the region.
