Japan has certified a seven-company plan to use low-carbon ammonia produced in India under its price-gap support scheme. IHI Corporation will offtake ammonia from a project in Odisha developed with ACME Group and supply it to Japanese power, chemical, and industrial users including Sumitomo Chemical and Kobe Steel. The certification under the Hydrogen Society Promotion Act signals a post-2030 route for lower-carbon feedstock and fuel sourcing in Japan. The project aims to reduce environmental impact by replacing conventional fossil fuels with low-carbon ammonia in power generation and industrial applications. For chemical and materials buyers, this marks a concrete step toward a lower-carbon supply chain. The seven companies involved will work to expand the use of low-carbon ammonia as part of Japan's carbon neutrality goals.
