Jain Irrigation has commissioned one of the world's largest single-unit biochar reactors in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. The facility processes 20,000 tonnes of agricultural waste annually using pyrolysis to create biochar, which improves soil fertility and locks carbon underground for centuries. The project aims to reduce the open burning of crop residues in India while generating verified carbon removal credits through the Puro.earth registry. By leveraging its existing farmer network, the company plans to integrate biochar into sustainable farming practices and create new revenue streams from the carbon market.
