J&K Mountain Policy launch at SKUAST-K summit: carbon market guides and climate resilience for Himalayan agriculture
kashmirreader.comThe 13th Sustainable Mountain Development Summit opens October 12 at SKUAST-K's Shalimar Campus in Srinagar, with the first J&K Mountain Policy set to be discussed. Organised with the Integrated Mountain Initiative, the three-day event covers climate-resilient agriculture, mountain ecosystem conservation, and inclusive growth for Himalayan communities. Alongside the policy draft, the summit launches three practical guides: a Farmer's Guidebook for equitable participation in agricultural carbon markets, an Article 6.2 Toolkit for international carbon cooperation, and an Environmental and Social Management Framework for carbon projects. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha are scheduled to speak at separate sessions. The event matters for anyone tracking carbon market development in India, since these documents target the gap between national policy and what farmers actually face on the ground.
