Italian school rebuild in Castel Madama reuses 70% of demolition waste, adds solar and rainwater collection
timesofindia.indiatimes.comCastel Madama, a town in Lazio near Rome, is rebuilding its primary school on Via della Libertà with a circular construction approach. Around 70% of the demolition waste from the old building will be reused, recycled, or recovered, and the new footprint will expand by only 5% compared with the previous structure. The project also adds solar panels, high-performance insulation, and a rainwater and groundwater collection system. The school is designed as a Nearly Zero Energy Building and is targeting energy use at least 20% below NZEB standards. It will have flexible classrooms, a green classroom for outdoor learning, and public areas that stay open to the community outside school hours. Construction is underway and the school is expected to open for the 2026/27 academic year.
