Isometric Publishes Draft Rules for Enhanced Weathering Carbon Removal Models, Opens Public Comment Period

Carbon certification firm Isometric has released a draft framework for using computational models to measure carbon removal from enhanced weathering. The approach aims to scale the technology by reducing reliance on expensive soil sampling, while requiring models to be validated against real field data. The public consultation is open until July 8. Enhanced weathering involves spreading crushed basalt on farmland to accelerate natural carbon-absorbing reactions. Isometric has already certified credits for six projects, but scaling requires cheaper monitoring. The new rules would let models extrapolate from intensively monitored sites, but only if they pass strict validation and independent expert review. Proprietary models must be publicly reviewed. Frontier Climate's Zeke Hausfather stressed that models must remain transparent and open to scientific scrutiny. The draft module is available on Isometric's registry, and suppliers, buyers, and scientists are invited to submit feedback before the July 8 deadline.
