The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has launched a public consultation on ISO 14060, the first global standard designed specifically for net-zero-aligned organizations. The standard aims to help companies create credible, verifiable transition plans as net-zero commitments now cover 77% of global GDP. It addresses emissions reductions, reporting, governance, carbon removals, and verification. This move comes as a 2025 Net Zero Tracker review found that 31% of major firms with net-zero targets lack public transition plans or clear disclosures on carbon credit use. ISO 14060 builds on earlier Net Zero Guidelines from COP27 and is open for consultation across 170 national standards bodies. The standard shifts focus from climate promises to structured, verifiable plans that investors and regulators increasingly demand.
