That is why the tax credit design is so flawed. Paying per ton without strict requirements on the carbon intensity of the energy used to power the fans is just a subsidy for the equipment manufacturers, not the climate.

Basically says DAC is too expensive and uses too much power to matter. The part about using captured CO2 for enhanced oil recovery is the most ironic bit. We are spending billions to help oil companies pull more oil out of the ground.

I would rather see this money go toward industrial heat pumps or building efficiency. We know how to save energy today. Spending billions on a vacuum cleaner for the sky when we have not even fixed the leaks in our factories seems backward.

Agreed. The payback period for DAC is essentially non existent if the goal is temperature reduction. It is more of a hedge for companies that cannot actually lower their own emissions.
