Irish hauliers are asking the Government to cut the cost of lower-carbon fuels in the upcoming Budget. The Irish Road Haulage Association wants a 12 cent per litre rebate on the biofuel component of blended diesel and a 24 cent per litre rebate for trucks running on pure HVO. It also wants the fuel excise reduction extended to spring 2027 and the existing diesel rebate kept in place. The group argues that biofuels are the only practical way for existing HGVs to reduce emissions before electric trucks become widely available. With margins already thin, the IRHA says operators cannot absorb the full cost of switching. It is also calling for continued support through the Road Transporters Support Scheme and warns that inaction could leave Ireland more exposed to EU climate fines.
