IRFC signs Rs 4,200 crore loan with DVC for solar and battery storage projects
newindianexpress.comIndian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) has signed a Rs 4,200 crore term loan agreement with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) to finance renewable energy projects in Jharkhand and West Bengal. The projects include floating solar, ground-mounted solar, rooftop solar, and battery energy storage systems (BESS) that will use DVC's existing land, reservoirs, and transmission infrastructure. The financing supports Indian Railways' goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2030. IRFC says this is part of its strategy to diversify into railway-linked infrastructure while bringing long-term capital to clean energy. The loan was signed in New Delhi with senior officials from both organizations. The deal is a notable step in mobilizing domestic finance for renewable energy and storage. It also highlights how state-owned entities are using their balance sheets to back clean power that will feed the railway grid.
