A new report from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) highlights the declining cost of firm renewable power. By combining solar and wind with battery energy storage systems (BESS), providers can deliver reliable, round-the-clock electricity that competes with fossil fuels on both price and stability. The transition to firm power involves storing excess energy to fill gaps when the sun is down or wind is low. IRENA projects that these integrated systems could see costs fall below $50/MWh by 2035, accelerating the shift toward a fully decarbonized power grid.
