Ireland's largest rooftop solar installation underway at Mannok in Co. Cavan
irishbuildingmagazine.ieActiv8 Solar Energies has started building a 6MW rooftop solar array on Mannok's manufacturing facilities in Co. Cavan. The project covers 3.88 hectares of rooftop and will use around 10,000 solar panels. It is expected to avoid 792 tonnes of carbon emissions each year and supply a significant portion of Mannok's electricity demand. The installation is funded through a Power Purchase Agreement with SSE Airtricity, meaning Mannok does not pay upfront capital costs. Instead, it buys the electricity generated at a reduced rate. This structure is part of a larger 200 million euro funded solar initiative from Activ8 and SSE Airtricity. The project shows how industrial manufacturers can use onsite renewables without large initial investment.
