The gap here is the 20 percent of carbon tax revenue not going toward environmental measures. If the government wants to hit targets, moving that money into TAMS for renewables is a logical shift in incentive design.
Funding the panels is one thing, but can the local distribution networks handle the surge in farm based generation? We need to know if these grants include grid connection upgrades or if they just buy hardware that sits idle during curtailment.
I wonder how many of these installations are actually reducing grid load versus just offsetting a small farmhouse. Without looking at the total energy profile of the farm, these grants might just be subsidizing low impact projects.
