Iraq's environment and transport ministries are planning a Green Taxi pilot that would use solar-powered charging plazas for electric taxis. The goal is to keep EV charging off the national grid, cut operating costs, and reduce transport emissions. Initial work will focus on retrofitting parking garages and terminals run by the General Company for Private Transport Administration. The pilot will track metrics like EV numbers, utilization, grid independence, maintenance costs, driver feedback, and verified fuel and emission reductions. Officials say those results will shape a wider national program to phase out fossil-fuel taxis gradually, so private operators and commuters are not hit with sudden costs. No timeline, budget, or target fleet size has been announced yet. The first phase is still in the planning and consultation stage.
