The Iowa Utilities Commission is weighing when to hold hearings on two short segments of Summit Carbon Solutions' proposed carbon dioxide pipeline expansion. The company wants earlier dates, while landowners and environmental groups argue the proposed schedule conflicts with harvest, calving season, and the holidays. Opponents also say the second phase hearings should wait until a lawsuit over the first phase permit is resolved. The two segments, roughly 3 miles in Ida County and 4 miles in Floyd County, are part of Summit's second phase of laterals connecting biofuel facilities. Summit recently amended its original route after a South Dakota law change and added incentives for enhanced oil recovery. The commission says it will issue procedural orders later, but did not say when.
