Iowa Utilities Commission denies Summit pipeline consolidation, sets 2027 hearings for two segments
iowacapitaldispatch.comIowa regulators denied Summit Carbon Solutions' request to consolidate outstanding dockets for its proposed carbon dioxide pipeline and set separate hearing dates in early 2027 for two short segments in Floyd and Ida counties. The company had argued that faster permitting would help ethanol producers and farmers reach low-carbon fuel markets. The Iowa Utilities Commission kept the dockets separate and pointed to the ongoing lawsuit over the phase one permit as part of the larger picture. Landowners opposed to the project told commissioners that Summit does not speak for them and that the company's investment should not create a regulatory shortcut. Some also questioned the appointment of former state representative Jon Dunwell to the commission because of his past votes on carbon pipeline legislation. The phase one permit, approved in 2024 with eminent domain authority, remains under court review after Summit proposed changes to the route.
