Summit has also cut about 200 miles from its proposed route and dropped eight Iowa counties entirely, removing more than 400 landowners from the project. The Iowa Farm Bureau is pushing to freeze Summit's eminent domain powers until hearings determine if the smaller project is viable. The original permit is still under court review. This modification gives Summit a legal path forward, but the timeline remains uncertain and the fight over land use and public purpose is far from over.
