A whitepaper from Innovafeed and Protix argues that insect protein sustainability should be judged at industrial scale, not from lab or pilot data. The companies say life cycle assessments based on early stage production miss efficiency gains that come with larger facilities. Innovafeed reports its carbon intensity fell to 1.2 kg CO2 per kg protein in 2025, down fivefold from 2022, with a target near 0.6 kg CO2e by 2030. Part of the gain comes from using waste heat and wet organic co-products from neighboring plants. The paper argues insects can add protein without the land pressure of soy or the fish stock pressure of fishmeal. That claim is worth testing against third party data, but the direction is consistent with broader decarbonization of feed ingredients.
