Infinium has announced a breakthrough in carbon capture utilization, supplying eNaphtha to Swiss sportswear brand On for the world's first EVA midsole made from captured carbon emissions at commercial scale. The midsole is used in On's Cleancloud shoe, marking a milestone for turning industrial CO2 into a usable material rather than releasing it into the atmosphere. The process uses Infinium's electrochemistry to convert captured CO2 into eNaphtha, which is then processed into the foam used in the shoe's midsole. This is not a lab demo or a small batch. It is being produced at commercial scale, which matters for proving that carbon capture utilization can work outside of pilot projects. The shoe is expected to be available to consumers later this year. If this holds up to lifecycle analysis, it could open a path for other consumer goods to use captured carbon as a feedstock.
