Infinium Launches mSAF Platform for Methane-Based Sustainable Aviation Fuel, Expanding Feedstock Options
prnewswire.co.ukInfinium has introduced a new methane-to-SAF product line called mSAF, which converts renewable natural gas, biogas, flare gas, and other methane streams into low-carbon aviation fuel. The platform uses the company's existing Fischer-Tropsch synthesis technology combined with electrified steam methane reforming (eSMR) to reduce combustion emissions and improve fuel yield per unit of gas. This complements Infinium's CO2-based eSAF business and aims to broaden where sustainable aviation fuel can be produced, particularly at landfills, dairies, and gas gathering sites. The company claims that carbon intensity will be verified project by project, depending on methane source, leakage rates, and production energy mix. Infinium worked with RMI on a market assessment, which emphasized the need for rigorous lifecycle accounting and credible certification frameworks. Project Roadrunner in Pecos, Texas, will deploy the world's largest eSMR, while Project Pathfinder has been operating since 2023 as a commercial power-to-liquids facility. The move addresses the aviation sector's need for multiple scalable SAF pathways.
