INEOS and Sandpiper Chemicals are partnering to develop a low carbon methanol facility in Texas City, Texas. The project aims to produce 1.1 million metric tons of blue methanol annually using natural gas combined with carbon capture and storage technology to reduce emissions. The facility is expected to capture 97% of process CO2 emissions. With a total investment of $1.7 billion, the project will enter the engineering phase in 2026, targeting first production by 2030 to supply the maritime and chemical sectors.
