INEOS Acetyls and Sandpiper Chemicals are collaborating to build a low-carbon methanol facility in Texas City, Texas. The project aims to produce 1.1 million metric tons of methanol per year using natural gas paired with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to reduce emissions. The 1.7 billion USD investment targets a 97% carbon capture rate for process emissions. INEOS will serve as both a shareholder and an anchor customer, using up to 300,000 tons of the output for acetic acid production. First production is expected in 2030.
