The Indore Municipal Corporation has developed a 60 MW solar power plant to lower the carbon footprint of its water transport systems. The project is expected to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 1.46 lakh tons while significantly cutting monthly electricity expenses. This facility marks a milestone in Indian climate finance as the first renewable energy project funded primarily through a public issue of green bonds. By generating 96 million units of electricity annually, the city reduces its reliance on coal-fired power for essential public services.
