The Indore Municipal Corporation has inaugurated a 60 MW solar power plant in Khargone, marking India's first renewable energy project funded through public green bonds. The facility is built on 211 acres of barren land and aims to reduce municipal electricity costs for water supply operations. The project is expected to lower carbon emissions by 1.46 lakh tons annually and generate significant revenue through carbon credits. By replacing expensive grid power with solar energy, the city expects to save approximately 5 crore rupees per month in electricity expenses.
