Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry is moving to monetize 4.2 million tonnes of surplus carbon credits from REDD+ activities in East Kalimantan. This follows the issuance of Permenhut No. 6/2026, which establishes new procedures for carbon trading and GHG emission offsets in the forestry sector. The government is also pursuing the registration of six provinces under the ART TREES scheme to standardize jurisdictional emission reductions. These efforts aim to mobilize climate finance and utilize high-integrity carbon assets to meet national climate targets.
