Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has identified about 120 energy sector carbon projects in its national trading pipeline, with a combined potential value of Rp1.7 trillion (around $104 million). Director General Eniya Listiani Dewi announced the figure at the INVIROTECH 2026 conference in Jakarta, noting the government is finalizing a ministerial regulation on carbon trading for the energy sector. This regulation is a derivative of Presidential Regulation No. 110/2025 on Carbon Pricing and aims to provide legal certainty for greenhouse gas emission offsets while maintaining high environmental integrity. The government expects the new framework to boost investor confidence and accelerate low-carbon technology development. Indonesia estimates carbon trading could mobilize up to $7.7 billion annually in green investment. Renewable energy projects, including waste-to-energy and hybrid models like hydropower combined with floating solar, are expected to participate in the market. Regulatory simplification and one-stop investment services are being prepared to speed up project development and market growth.
