Indonesia is preparing to launch its first international sale of forest and land use carbon credits in early July 2026, with a target of over 30 million tons of emission reductions. The credits will come from existing legacy projects, and the sale follows new regulations including Presidential Regulation No. 110/2025 on carbon pricing and two forestry ministry regulations covering carbon trading procedures and mechanisms in conservation areas. The country will offer two trading pathways: one using domestically certified emission reductions and another using international standards. All transactions will be recorded through Indonesia's Carbon Registry Unit System. The government sees significant potential in forest-based carbon projects, noting around 12 million hectares of degraded land and 48.7 million hectares of forest areas that could support carbon reduction projects.
