Indonesia has launched the Indonesia Forestry Carbon Hub and approved its first batch of forestry carbon credit projects. The initial phase covers 225,000 hectares with an estimated 30 million tonnes of CO2e reduction potential, aiming to generate around Rp 5 trillion in carbon transactions. Projects include peatland restoration and community based carbon initiatives, with a new registration system linked to Verra and the Indonesia Stock Exchange via blockchain for transparency. The government is also revising regulations to simplify licensing and attract investment in the green economy, targeting restoration of 12.7 million hectares of degraded land through carbon market projects. This move is part of Indonesia's strategy to meet its 2030 FOLU net sink target and finance forest conservation under the Paris Agreement.
