Indonesia's Financial Services Authority (OJK) launched the Carbon Unit Registry System (SRUK) in Jakarta on July 9, 2026. The system will serve as the primary market backbone for carbon trading before connecting to the Indonesia Carbon Exchange secondary market. OJK Chair Friderica Widyasari Dewi stated the goal is to channel capital inflows from domestic and international investors into community-based environmental programs, with a projected US$5.8 billion in green investment and 570 million tons of CO2e emission reductions from the Carbon Economic Value (NEK) instrument. OJK also issued Regulation No. 10 of 2024 to align financial services with the national carbon economic value framework and greenhouse gas emission control targets. The regulation aims to give the financial sector a clear legal basis to fund decarbonization projects. The SRUK launch and regulatory harmonization are steps toward making Indonesia a leader in the global carbon market while delivering tangible social benefits.
