Indonesia is establishing a legal and policy framework for jurisdictional REDD+ carbon trading to fund massive forest restoration and conservation. The initiative aims to protect 50 million hectares of natural forests and rehabilitate 12 million hectares of degraded land using carbon markets as a primary financing tool. Under Ministerial Regulation No. 6 of 2026, the government is focusing on environmental integrity and fair benefit sharing. The goal is to bridge voluntary and compliance markets while ensuring that local communities receive meaningful incentives for climate action.
