Indonesia carbon market enters new phase with 30 million ton forestry credit issuance and SRUK registry launch in July 2026

Indonesia's Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni announced the country is moving from carbon market policy design to practical implementation. New ministerial regulations under Presidential Regulation 110/2025 provide the legal basis for governance and environmental integrity. The ministry plans to issue over 30 million tonnes of CO2e in forestry carbon credits on July 6, 2026, followed by the launch of the Carbon Unit Registration System (SRUK) on July 9, 2026, which will serve as the national carbon market infrastructure. The minister stated that several forestry carbon projects will be registered under internationally recognized standards, covering tropical forests, peatlands, mangroves, and emerging technologies like biochar and CCUS. He called for three collective actions: sending a strong market signal for high-integrity credits, encouraging their use in corporate climate strategies, and strengthening international cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The announcement was made during London Climate Action Week.
