Indonesia calls for stronger Asia-Pacific climate action at UNESCAP meeting in Bangkok

Indonesia used the 9th UNESCAP Committee on Environment and Development session in Bangkok to push for a unified regional climate agenda. Deputy Environment Minister Diaz Hendropriyono told delegates that environmental protection and economic growth must move together. He highlighted Indonesia's mangrove and peatland restoration work, circular economy efforts, and blue economy initiatives as examples of balancing ecology with development. The Indonesian delegation also joined a side event on blue carbon finance, discussing how coastal and marine ecosystem restoration can unlock climate funding. The session adopted a ministerial declaration and a regional action plan on advancing synergies for sustainable development. With 52 member states present, the meeting signals growing momentum for cross border climate cooperation in Asia Pacific.
