Indonesia and Japan have agreed to accelerate Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) carbon projects and expand cooperation on geothermal power, waste-to-energy, sustainable aviation fuel, green ammonia, and carbon market development. The deal was confirmed during a bilateral meeting in Jakarta between Indonesia's EBTKE directorate and Japan's METI delegation. Priority projects include the Sarulla and Muaralaboh Unit 2 geothermal plants, the Legok Nangka waste-to-energy facility, the Green Ammonia Initiative in Aceh, and small-scale nuclear power. Both countries also committed to faster implementation of JCM projects involving carbon capture and storage and internationally recognized carbon trading mechanisms. Indonesia is also tightening energy management in industrial facilities and commercial buildings through new regulations and its Online Energy Management Reporting platform. The partnership aims to boost investment in low-carbon technologies and support Indonesia's energy transition goals.
