Indonesia's Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) launched a 2026-2045 Blue Carbon Ecosystem Protection and Management Roadmap in Jakarta, with support from AFD and WRI Indonesia. The roadmap covers 3.45 million hectares of mangroves and 660,000 hectares of seagrass, estimated to store up to 3.4 gigatons of carbon. It aims to integrate land and ocean climate strategies, strengthen coastal resilience, and improve community livelihoods. The plan focuses on policy integration, unified data systems, MRV standards, innovative financing, and community empowerment. AFD has supported the Indonesia Climate Change Trust Fund since 2022. The roadmap aligns with Indonesia's goal to cut emissions by 31.89% domestically and up to 43.2% with international support by 2030. Implementation will proceed in stages through 2045, targeting both climate mitigation and adaptation benefits for coastal areas.
