Indonesia's Ministry of Forestry and U.S.-based Emergent Forest Finance Accelerator signed a memorandum of understanding during London Climate Action Week 2026 to explore climate finance for Jurisdictional REDD+ (JREDD+). The non-exclusive agreement covers potential use of verified emissions reductions from the World Bank-supported Forest Carbon Partnership Facility, results-based payments, and other high-integrity climate finance instruments. The MoU does not commit either party to commercial transactions or an Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement. Any future deal must follow Indonesian laws, its national carbon registry, and mutual agreement. Indonesia previously secured $110 million in results-based finance through the FCPF after verified emissions reductions. Emergent CEO Eron Bloomgarden noted Indonesia's strategic position as home to one of the world's largest tropical forest areas. Scaling up JREDD+ could deliver large-scale emissions reductions while protecting biodiversity and supporting forest-dependent communities. The partnership reflects Indonesia's push to expand international climate finance access while strengthening its carbon governance framework.
