India presented its Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) at the WTO Trade and Environment Week in Geneva, highlighting progress on emissions reduction and renewable energy targets. Officials from the Ministry of Environment, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and Ministry of Power detailed India's carbon market framework, which aims to establish a national electronic trading platform for carbon credits. India reported that non-fossil fuel electricity generation capacity reached 53.21% by March 2026, beating its 2030 target of 50% by nearly five years. Emissions intensity of GDP fell 37.38% between 2005 and 2022, surpassing the NDC target of 33-35% reduction well ahead of schedule. The session also covered green hydrogen standards under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and discussions with Japan on trade-restrictive climate measures.
