India presented its Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) at the WTO Trade and Environment Week 2026 in Geneva, highlighting progress on emissions reduction and renewable energy targets. The event showcased India's national framework for a domestic carbon market, including plans for an electronic trading platform and standards for green hydrogen certification. Key achievements shared include reaching 53.21% non-fossil fuel power capacity by March 2026, five years ahead of the 2030 target, and a 37.38% reduction in emissions intensity of GDP between 2005 and 2022. India also discussed with Japan how trade-related climate measures can create unnecessary obstacles for developing countries, emphasizing the CBDR-RC principle.
