India has submitted updated climate targets to the UN for the 2031 to 2035 period. The plan aims for 60 percent of electric power capacity to come from non-fossil fuel sources and a 47 percent reduction in GDP emissions intensity compared to 2005 levels. The submission emphasizes that meeting these goals depends on financial aid and technology transfers from developed nations. India also plans to expand its carbon sinks to absorb 3.5 to 4 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent through increased forest cover.
