India is accelerating its shift toward a low-carbon electricity system, with solar capacity now exceeding 130 GW. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) is moving beyond simple procurement to act as a system integrator, focusing on bankable power purchase agreements and domestic manufacturing to meet the 500 GW non-fossil fuel target by 2030. To maintain grid stability, the strategy now emphasizes energy storage, including pumped hydro and battery systems, alongside decentralized rooftop solar. These efforts aim to provide firm, dispatchable power and decarbonize hard-to-abate industrial sectors through green hydrogen and ammonia.
