The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged over 20 Indian states to implement urgent relief measures as extreme heatwaves increase in frequency and intensity. The advisory focuses on protecting outdoor workers, the elderly, and homeless populations who lack adequate shelter. In response, several states including Tamil Nadu are establishing specialized medical wards and ORS centers to treat heatstroke and dehydration. The move highlights the growing need for climate adaptation strategies to mitigate health risks and livelihood losses during extreme weather events.
