India faces a significant gap in scrap metal availability, with only 25 percent of steel demand currently met through scrap based production. This shortage forces a continued reliance on iron ore and blast furnaces, which increases carbon emissions and complicates the transition to green steel. To combat these emissions, India is looking toward the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the Carbon Credit Trading System. These mechanisms aim to incentivize decarbonization in heavy industry by rewarding companies that reduce their carbon footprint and penalizing high emitters.
